The SHSG Summer School offers you a hands‑on introduction to programming and digital technologies in two intensive weeks before the new semester starts. This course is accredited with ECTS.

What you can expect
In a world where data is the new oil, new technologies are being integrated at an increasingly exponential rate in our daily lives. To become successful leaders of tomorrow, students of today need a profound understanding of the digital world.
The Summer Coding Bootcamp was developed to meet the high demand for technology courses at the HSG, and aims to give students a comprehensive introduction to topics of the field. Over the course of two intense weeks, students will immerse themselves into different aspects of current technology.
The course will teach you programming skills as well as how to build a real prototype.
For 2026, we will take advantage of the newest and hottest stuff in the field (GenAI as a learning tool for coding and for Project Execution) - stay tuned!
Schedule of the SHSG Summer School 2026
Part I
During Part I you will receive daily learning videos and can schedule them as you wish. In the afternoon, the coached practice sessions will take place. These will be in person at the Discovery (SQUARE), and will last 4 hours at some point between 2-6pm. On Friday there will be a mock exam to prepare for the real exam in the following week.
Part II
Part II is especially based on the group projects, which will be introduced after the exam on Monday. This offers the opportunity to apply what you have learned in Part I. The coaches will be at your disposal a few hours during the day to help you. The Discovery (SQR) will be open from 8am-6pm for the groups to meet. There will also be a workshop on Tuesday and on Friday the groups will come together to present their projects.
Factsheet
Information for students:
You will get either 2 ECTS (Bachelor) or 3 ECTS (Master) for the SHSG Summer School and the grade consists of the following two parts:
an online written examination that will account for 60% of the final grade
a group project: your final code as well as a presentation of the results will be assessed. This will represent 40% of the final grade
Applications are open to all Bachelor and Master students, as well as Alumni of the University of St. Gallen.

The Summer School 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2025 were a huge success: Besides learning the fundamentals of programming and having workshops in the areas IoT, Web Development, AI and Blockchain, the students could deepen their knowledge in a 3-day Hack in a coached group project.
